While there are many bumps along the road to raising a toddler, there are also opportunities and joys to be experienced. Parents should remember that it is their job to teach their children what they need to know as they watch their toddler move closer and closer to their third birthday.
By the age of 28 months, the toddler is ready to begin developing additional skills, such as arts and crafts. Parents should provide their children with plenty of ways to express their creativity. For instance, coloring and making music are important parts of teaching culture and fostering imagination.

Reading and re-reading the same book over and over is another great way to enhance learning and language development. In fact, some parents might find that their child is learning English so quickly that they are ready to introduce a second language. Some studies have shown that children learn foreign languages more easily than adults, so it does not hurt to expose the child to another language if this is something that is important to parents.
While these developments are welcome and should be encouraged, there are other behaviors that might begin to take shape during the 28th month that parents might not find so inviting. For instance, many toddlers develop an aversion to clothes around this age. Parents might turn around to find their little one disrobing at any given moment. While potentially embarrassing given the situation in which it might occur, this too is a normal part of development that should not elicit a severe reaction.
Another new behavior that parents might find unnerving is the toddler's resistance to affection. While he or she might have loved giving their parents a hug in the past, suddenly the toddler is uninterested or even squeamish about it. This is the child's way of exerting independence, and it should not be seen as a sign of anything beyond that.
Parents of a 28-month-old should focus on developing their skills and not sweating the small stuff.
